Vacation Things to do

I'm driving to St. Louis, Memphis, and New Orleans... Then back through the southern FTE meet...

Besides the Arch, Graceland, and the French Quarter what are the "Don't Miss" things to see, or places to eat. (It's just the wife and I)

Any input will be helpful.

Thanx in advance.

I heard one can spend 3 days on Beale street in Memphis just drinking and listening to great music.

http://www.memphistravel.com/thingstodo_music.asp

I would spend 2 weeks in Memphis if I could

I'm suprised you never mentioned Nashville though since you would be so close

Have you done any 'Chamber of Commerce 'internet sites for these cities ?

you could drive by all the old abandoned buildings and decrepid housing in st. louis for a good look at the way of life there, at least that is what my wife observed when we went there.

NOLA is great to go now, all the criminals havn't moved back yet. they are still in memphis and houstin.

I dunno, you couldn't pay me to visit NOLA. I have a friend that just got back (two days ago) from working there and from what he says it isn't good to go. Gunfire every night and the city still in shambles. While it is true that a lot of their criminals are in Houston (two of them raped a friend of my wife) NOLA has a steady supply of dirtbags.

Memphis has a good zoo & Beale St is good. Check out the Peabody hotel while your in the downtown area too. I live in a suburb of Memphis. I'll try to think of some other good places & post them for you.

Beale, Zoo and Peabody motel in Memphis- Good.... Dusty Museum in St. Louis- Bad... Got it!

I have to be in New Orleans for business Tue thru Thursday... Hence the reason for goig there. I figure 2 days in St. Louis on the way down, and 1 or 2 in Memphis on the way back. Never thought of Nashville... I was just looking at mapquest an saw that I would be passing through Memphis both ways. So we're just kind of playing it by ear. Another board suggested the aquarium in New Orleans, and the bud factory in St. Louis.

Thanks for the info so far keep the ideas coming. We've been searching the net... but got burned on a few things when we went to Atlanta last year. Things that where supposed to be good... but weren't. So I thought I would ask those "in the know"

be sure to tour beautiful E. St Louis, on foot if possible. The warm and friendly residents will welcome you warmly. Be sure to carry all your cash and valuables in your back pocket, it a local custom due to all the "open air markets".

Memphis has a new ballpark. Its a minor league team the Redbirds but the stadium top notch. Beale street is ok but watch out for crooks on the streets near it. Beale isn't that bad due to lots of cops on duty there. Just be aware of your surroundings & you will be ok. Memphis is rated number 2 in crime nation wide so its best to be on guard when you visit. I believe this holds true in any large city.

I just got back from two weeks in the US

Went to Memphis, Nashville drove down the Natchez Trace then headed over to Austin for the last weekend (awesome)

Beale Street was great, the buskers in the park start early afternoon, If you are remotely interested in guitars do the Gibson factory tour only $10 and was really interesting, may be worth booking ahead

Several people we spoke to after visiting Memphis asked if we got mugged which I am glad to say we didn't

If you can go back via Nashville visit the honkytonks downtown, you wont be dissapointed, the country music hall of fame is well worth a visit
