2001 f-250 electrical problems
When I try to turn it over, there is absolutely nothing. When ignition switch is in the ON position, the wipers run intermittently (even though switch is off), the speedometer bounces up and down intermittently; and other lights in the instrument cluster flash on and off intermittently. However, the primary dome light does not come on whether manually turned on or if the doors are open.
Battery is relatively new. Shows 12.5 volts when key is off. The truck starts easily when it is jumped. When I jumped it, it was night so I needed all my lights. Once the truck was running, head, tail, and running lights and turn signals worked fine. Entire system was charging at 13-14 volts. However, when driving, my son switched on one of the secondary dome lights and it killed the engine dead.
Ideas?
Use a voltmeter to measure across what should be direct connections while under load (turn yout headlight switch to ON). A faulty connection or cable will show voltage where there should be none.
That last bit about the dome light isn't exactly good news. Fix the primary starting problem first, then see if this one is still around.
