If I remember correctly, the SHO engine is a totally different engine from the normal 3.0. In fact I think that it was a Yamaha designed engine and not a Ford engine at all. Does anyone else remember anything about these engines? Please correct me if I am wrong.

I take it this forum is focused on the 3.0 liter V6 Ranger engine. I have read that the 3.0 liter V6 that is in my Mariner is different, but have not read what the differences are between them. Anyone know?

yes the SHO was a yamaha design.
The mariner is also a different 3.0... I'm almost positive it's a Volvo design, but I could be wrong.
The 3.0 used in Rangers was also used in the Taurus (Sable), Tempo (Topaz), Aerostar, and the Thunderbird (Cougar).

I thought the Mariner would get a "dura tech" dohc...
Not sure that the Vulcan was ever in a T-bird or Cougar.
The SHO was a dohc and the vulcan is ohv.. One a race-horse hi-rev, the other a stump puller with torque available at lower rpms..
