Mechanical Temp Gauge Install Help

Does anyone know the best way to install a mechanical coolant temp gauge on a 95 5.8, and still keep the stock gauge operational? Is there another port in the intake to install another temp gauge?

No other port. Have to use either the stock or mechanical gauge.

Unless you find a spot in the coolant part of the intake manifold, drill and tap a hole, and install the mechanical gauge in that.

It's also possible to do like I did..... get a "T" fitting and go from there. Someday I'll have pictures of how I did it haha.

Handyman, Did you just put a T in the stock temp port and put the mechanical one in one and the stock electric in the other? Does that affect the temp reading much?

Thats what I did, and the aftermarket gauge reads just like it did before I tore the engine down. It stays steady at 185. I did the same thing with the oil pressure sender. It's not extremely accurate but at least I know roughly how much PSI it's got. In all reality, it's not necessary to use the factory senders. The only reason I did this is because I'm not the only one who drives my truck, and most people rely on the gauges on the dash. If they see that the coolant temperature isn't coming off of cold, or that the oil pressure isn't coming up off of Low, they will freak out and I'll get a phone call. Most people don't even pay attention to the aftermarket gauges, mainly because they don't know how to read them. 185 degrees to them is probably melt-down. 50 PSI oil pressure to them means the engine is about to explode.

Thanks for the information. I had thought about doing that, but I wasn't sure how the gauges would read. I guess I'll try it that way. I want all of the gauges for the same reason you do. I also have others besides myself drive the truck. Thanks.
