Depending on who you ask, it is either safe to use an additive such as B-12 injector cleaner to clean the fuel injectors or not. I have over 64,000 miles on my 2004 with the 5.4, and have never treated the fuel system in fear of the potential negative outcome. Is there anyone out there that can give me a definitive answer??
I use Seafoam on my '01 Expy, '02 Mustang GT and '93 Lexus GS and never had a negative outcome. Pull some through the brake booster and about 1/2 to 3/4 a can in the fuel. Run a search for seafoam and you'll find plenty of info and instructions.
I agree with bridge, and to answer you original question, no, B-12 won't hurt your system. You won't get as much benefit as the Seafoam or a professional injector cleaning with it, but it might help.
I have actually used B-12 in the tank as well as the booster and it did just what it was supposed to do. First, I began to get a lot of white smoke from the tail pipe along with a rough idle while performing the cleaning. Then the chk engine light came on, but instead of waiting for codes to clear I just disconnected the battery cables for about 15 min and cleared them manually. She ran like brand new baby afterwards, now I do this twice a year.
