Well, that ain't exactly what I said this morning when I walked up to my truck parked on my driveway.
I have a pop-up camper parked in my driveway, and my truck sits right next to it at night. I have one of those one car, two car garages, you know the ones where if you parked two cars in it you would have to cut a hole in the roof to get out. Any way this morning I went out and every wheel of my truck had a beer bottle broken in it. Like smashed through the spokes all over the brakes and glass all over the damn place. It took me two hours to clean up all the glass outta my wheels and off my driveway. Here in Las Vegas Metro won't even come out and look at this kind of vandalism. I did file a report at the substation this morning. I only see two small scratchs on two wheels so damage is minimal.
My issue is this though. I know of no one I have pi$$ed off latley. I have good relationships with my neighbors. But quite frankly I am worried about what will happen to my truck in the future. Is this some enviro nut, or was it just a stupid prank pulled by kids (or adults) bored outta their minds. And when I say stupid I mean stupid. Hell I have enough guns and ammo in my home to start a revolution. Ya gotta be real dumb to attack me.
Well I guess I will have a few sleepless night for awhile.
I'd guess random. I'm not familiar with the "beer bottles broken into the spokes" prank/vandalism, though. When an environmentalist is pissed off, they tend to target vehicles (or homes) with fire. Plus, they tend to target hummers. I don't think that your '06 lariat qualifies with them. Did you check with your neighbors? Did any of them have similar damage visited upon their vehicles?
Here in Charlotte, we had a 3-week spree during which time on the weekends, about 20 to 30 cars had their rear windows shot out (mostly SUVs, but some trucks), unless they were parked along the roadway, in which case a side window was shot out. Use of a pellet gun. That's 20 to 30 cars per weekend......Turned out to be about 100 total. Finally, SC cops busted one of the kids doing the crap down there......We got 2 of our officers to interview in SC and they got 2 other names......The kids (16 to 18....all High School ne'er-do-wells) were arrested 2 weeks later, and each got convicted recently.....community service, 2 years probation, and each had to cough up $3000 to $4000 (which their parents ended up paying, of course) to pay for restitution to the victims. The great thing was, we made a LOT of citizens happy by catching them, and a LOT of citizens got money back that they would have sworn was lost forever. See...every now and then we (the cops) DO do something right...(haha).
Sounds like a random act of stupidity by drunk teenagers. Maybe some kind of ritual or just a dumb idea one of them came up with. If they didn't damage your truck then they aren't mad at you, just a morons night out, with alcohol.
I can certainly empathize with you on not being able to sleep well for awhile after an incident like that.
I swear to god if I should catch the ******, I just don't know what I will do. I have worked my *** off all my life for everything I have. I have a Lariat because I worked my *** of for it. I just don't know what I will do if I catch someone vandalizing my stuff, let alone my fricking 30 thousand dollar truck. Damn I worked hard for that truck!
Sucks to hear that man, could have been some drunks walking home and decided to play a game of smashing beer bottles, who knows. Just be glad they were firing bullets in your house or something crazy like that!
i think its time for a small video camera mounted in the eaves to moniter the driveway.
I'm seriously considering several small video cameras mounted in the truck and wired to a DVR (possibly in the form of an old laptop) to record non-stop 24/7 so I can hopefully at least get the license plate numbers of people that side-swipe my truck in the parking lot, then drive off, and other hit-run accidents. If I had something like this in my truck two years ago it would have saved me $1500 in deductibles, and several people would at least learn that taking off and leaving an accident doesn't guarantee they won't be caught.
With the increase of hit and run accidents, which are the norm in some parts of the country, don't be surprised if someone starts marketing a mobile camera system for passenger vehicles specifically for this purpose.
If you think about it in the money aspect of it Fomhoire, a laptop with some cameras would have been right around the price of your deductibles, if that happened to a guy more then once, that stuff would have been paid for.
