I have been having a great deal of difficulty with my '04 Excursion lately.
Since August, I have had the following installed by the dealer
EGR valve
Turbo (new style BARM)
MAP sensor
IAT sensor
Mass Air Flow sensor, and
Intercooler assembly
Everything except the EGR and the Turbo were replaced in an effort to stop the P132B code from being thrown. A Ford Engineer finally came and looked at the truck, and he ended up "re-configuring" the computer (not sure which one), as the VGT was not learning set points....at least that is how I understand it.
Anyway, last week, I got a CEL again, but the light cleared before I got it to the dealer. They read the codes anyway, and it was the P132B again. The tech checked it, and made sure everything had "learned" what it needed to, and I was sent on my merry way.
Well, today, the CEL set again. The dealer is going to look at it on Monday, but they don't know what is happening. I am assuming the P132B is the culprit again.
Have any of the techs out there experienced a similar problem on a 6.0 that they have worked on?
My truck is an '04 (8/03 build) with 33,900 miles on it, and is totally stock.
Your truck probably has an exhaust leak. It could be at the exhaust manifold but more likely, your turbo inlet pipes. There is usually a leak at the flex joint area. The new EBP inferred program assumes that the exhaust system is completely sealed, and if its not, the VGT will never learn strategy. After the turbo inlet pipe replacement, have your tech disconnect both batteries. After a few minutes, reconnect the batteries, and let the truck idle with no driver input for about ten minutes. It should be OK after that.
I think they may have covered those bases already. They also replaced the exhaust crosspipe because there was a crack found in it. I will mention the inlet pipe on Monday morning when I drop the truck off. Just for discussion sake, the CEL went out this morning. This is the second time it has happened. The VGT learns, then unlearns....? Could there be a voltage problem, affecting the memory units where the VGT info is stored after learning?
Exactly like my '04 (except for the intercooler assembly) even the same bulid date...my lights not comming on any more though and hasn't thrown a code latley...we'll see tomorrow...anyways mine going in on monday...they have decided that because of a seemingly endless array of new problems (never the same thing twice...knock on wood) they are going to replace all the major problem parts they see in the 6.0L which mean I'll be getting some brand new stuff that they say hasn't gone bad YET. Hopefully I'm done with all my problems.
