I'm looking at this truck and would like to know what you guys think. It has a few dings and dents and a couple of deep scratches on the passenger side. The interior is pretty clean, the driver seat has a tear(actually wore through) on the outside and the armrest is beat up. The windshield is cracked and it has a little bit of slop in the steering. I believe it is the joint at the pitman arm.
Okay done thinking Check the ball joints, if there's no zerks they're probably original and will need changing accounting for the loose steering. It could also be the front wheel bearings. The transmission could also be a problem depending on how it was used/driven. The shocks will be shot as well as the sway bar bushings (things I've changed about 80,000). The price isn't too bad as long as you're handy and can do the repairs yourself. Shocks are $250 (Bilsteins), Sway bar bushings are $50 (Energy Suspension), ball joints $300 with the seals, etc.
Hey Ford79, check out kbb.com, make note of the mileage on the truck, all damage, all accessories, and use Dmp437's advice also. you should come up with a price for the truck.
OK, I've run a check on KBB and came up with 2 different numbers: 10,475 and 13,495. These two checks are the same in every way, except 4 days apart. I can't see a few days changing value that much(earlier check was the lower of the two). Where would you suggest I take the truck for an inspection? It is about 80 miles from my house in a town I am not familiar with. They do have a Ford dealer in town and probably a few other shops as well. As far as replacing parts, no problem here.
Hi, take the truck to a shop that you trust, preferably recommended by a friend. the value may change due to zip codes on kbb.com. btw, do you have pics?
Thanks Wayne. I used the same zip on both. Oh well, guess kbb was having an off day. Shop that I trust? That's hard, I don't have a shop that I go to regularly, I do everything myself. I'll probably see if I can take it into the Ford dealer down the road and have them give it a quick look over. Pics can be found in the link in the first post or looking HERE
I have just finished up shopping and buying a 2000 F-250 and in the Central Ohio pricing I was quoted that one would be right in there, not high, not a bargain. For that price it shouldnt need any obvious mechanical things like the steering link you mentioned. Only an exceptional truck of that vintage wont have some scars inside and out IMO.
Hi Mike, well from what I can see, it is a nice lookin' truck, if it were me, I would make a lower offer and see waht happens. 164K is a lotta miles. the national average is 12-15K per year. my .02
