I just bought a '06 Super Cab XLT and I really like it. While I was searching for a truck equipped like I wanted it I noticed how few Super Cabs there are being produced now as compared to Super Crews.
Do you think Ford and others are phasing out SuperCab/Extended Cab production??? It certainly appears so to me!!!
I bet within three or four years you'll be limited to choosing between a regular cab or crew cab.
I've wondered the same thing sometimes, I can't see Ford totally eliminating them because they still sell quite a few, but I bet they do the same thing they did with the regular cabs; not have any on the lot and tell them they have to specially order it with the hopes that the buyer won't want to wait and could be talked into spending the extra money to get an extended/crew cab. I bought new supercab this winter and love it, there is plenty of room in back for what I use it for, and since the back is larger than the previous generation people will sit back there for a trip and not complain about being cramped. I was originally thinking about buying a crew cab, but after seeing that Ford made the supercabs bigger in '04 I decided to save my money and get a supercab.
I could see them doing what Toyota and some others have done....only offering the most popular engines & options on the SuperCrew compared to the other models. Not offering the V8 in the reg cab, no FX4 in the SuperCab.
Maybe they could do a Scab without the suicide doors, normal swing door, but just smaller. I personally love my Scab. The super crew is ok, but the 04 and up has damn near as much room in the back as the Screw. Plus I have a short wheel base with the short box, which is what I needed. Short box gets around in the mountians much better than standard or long box. How do I know? I was born and spent 46 years of my life in the mountians of central Idaho.

Think I'm right?
Dodge went with the Quad Cab idea some time ago and they seem to have done OK with it. Having finally gone to a Screw after two Scabs I have to say the four door design is a lot handier without any real disadvantage.
I will still look very seriously at the regular cab when I get my next truck. That extra room behind the seats makes it very usable for an older couple and having an 8 foot box with a reasonable wheelbase is also appealing.
I would agree, exteded cabs seem to be a thing of the past.... I also bought an 06 f150 super crew.... when i was looking at the different manufactures i noticed that even chevy has produced more 4 door trucks than extended cabs.... i think that dodge open the door for this with their quad cabs. also with the socker moms driving the suv's the husbands of these moms also might need to take the kids somewhere.
I have 3 kids and extended cabs ae just a bit of an incovienance... 4 doors offer much more room and you can still get them with a full size bed or the shorter one... extended cab is like having a 2 door car, unless its just you and the misses w/ no children its not really practical in my opinion.

Yeah it is hard to say but a lot of people dont buy reg cabs but they still offer them and still lots of people without families like single people want supercabs and some people probably use supercab for work trucks well where im from there is no shortage of scabs
The supercab with forward opening doors has already been tried by Dodge, but they now have the mega cab to compete with the supercrew & GM's crew cabs.
Around here it is a pretty even mix of reg cabs, supercabs, and crewcabs (supercrews). All the dealers here also keep them all in stock. They actual order and keep more reg cab superdutys in stock than crew cabs, but with F150's they have more supercabs and screws than reg cabs. When I bought my 04 F150 I asked them about sales of trucks, and the sales person said that they sell more supercabs, and regular and crew cabs were about even.
I think is has to do with the fact that there are alot of farmers, construction workers, plumbers, ect, that will only buy reg cabs 3/4 and 1 tons. A few have started to buy supercabs, and about the only crewcab trucks that I ever see on a job site belong to the concrete guys. But the average person that wants a truck, but doesn't need one usually buys a 1/2ton crew cab.
Well it sounds like it just depends on where you live on how the sales ratio goes. I swung by the dealership where I bought my SuperCab from and it appears they have gotten their first '07 F-150's in. This dealership is located in Ardmore, Ok. (Billingsley Ford) in southern Oklahoma. The F-150 trucks on the lot consisted of one SuperCab and ALL the rest I saw were SuperCrews. Usually they have between two and ten regular cabs on the lot (all XL's) but they don't even have that on this go-around!
That's pretty much the truck floorplan at all the dealerships in southern Oklahoma and north Texas this past year. About 70% SuperCrews, 10% SuperCabs, and 20% Regular cabs (and just about all the Reg cabs are XL's with very few options added).
Take care of your SuperCabs...they just may be a collector's item soon!!!
