300 to 460!

Hey there guys.

I have a carbed 460 waiting in the basement for a vehicle to be smacked into.

Being that my F-150 is the only vehicle i have, she's probably going to get it.

Its a 95 F-150, straight six, 5 speed tranny.

I have an 88 F-250 parts truck that the 460 came out of.

Here's what i have:
-complete 460
-motor mounts and frame perches from the 88
-radiator from the 88
-all accessories and everything on front of the 460

Now i know i will need a fuel pressure reg, and all the computer stuff i am able to conquer.

What i don't know is how I'm going to mount this guy in there. I'd like to get an AOD, the shift linkage i don't think will be a problem. I'm not sure though if these frame perches will mount to my frame, or if the aod will bolt up to my t-case, or drive shaft length, etc.

Has anyone done this before?

You must live by the quote "Theres no replacement for displacement" haha.

The ONLY Automatic OD tranny that will work is the E4OD. Note that there were ones for the 300/302 and 351 engines, one for the 460, and another for the 444 diesel. You have to get one that was behind a 460. Other than that..... you've lost me haha Good luck. Might want to get a different rear end also (Sterling 10.25.) The 8.8 which is probably in your F-150 might not hold up to the 460. I'm not sure though.

I thought the AOD was a standard option behind the 460?

An electronic tranny won't work very well in this application either!

There are replacements for displacement, but its the best place to start.

An AOD was never offered behind a 460. In stock form, they aren't strong enough. If you go with an E4OD, you'll have to get a standalone controller.

Also, the E4OD behind a diesel is the same as the one found behind a 460, not that it matters for you.

Your frame mounts should be fine since the perches came out of an 88. Sounds like you got a good handle on the rest of the stuff.
