Really could us some help on this one. Acquired a 64 F100 which I really like because it is (I think) very original re: drivetrain, and body. Has character and, with the funky old Koenig tool bed, will haul around tons of tools. So, I really am fond of it. But here is the hitch. Has low compression old 292 and I'm no fan of the "Y block" (no offense to you Y block guys). One engine mount front center and one either side of three speed tranny which I would like to keep if no big bell housing problem. Want to swap with either a 300 straight six or a 289/302. Hope to eventually take truck to Mexico and simplicity and parts availability is, therefore, important. So how should I go? And did Ford do anything else that anybody knows of use the single center engine mount or should I just get used to the notion of replacing engine mounts AND, if so, am I going to have to fabricate them or does Santa really exist and there is a seller out there somewhere who has ready-made bolt or weld in ones?
I really love my 292, and have been looking for a complete one to rebuild. I'd be very willing to take the old one off your hands! As for the engine mount, I have the same one. Seems put together good and tight, I'm not expecting it to break anytime soon as the 292 isn't a high vibration engine, and is relatively small so it doesn't "twist" in the engine compartment as it revves.
Let me know,

Sorry, I forgot, but I believe that they may have put the 300 I-6 in the '64 from the factory, so the motor mounts should be available; or you could get some from your favorite junkyard.

I thought that the 262 was a Y-block, but don't quote me on that ;-)

The 64 came with either the 262 six or the 292 v8. However, the 289 V8 was available, but only if you had the Camper Special package. In 65, the 240 & 300 6, as well as the 289 and 358 8's were offered.I am not certain, but I don't think the motor mount crossmember was interchangeable from the 64 to 65, due to the adoption of the twin I beam front in 65....

I believe Ford did use a front-center mount on the 240/300. These engines were introduced in 1965 as was a;ready mentioned. However, the F350 didn't convert to twin I-beam in 1965. Therefore, it's my belief that therein lies your mount. I haven't researched this in the master parts book, or actually seen it in real life, but I am reasonably certain.

OK, I did my homework and it's a 272 Y-block v8, not a 262

Where are you guys coming up with these engines?? The 1961-64 F-Series pickups had three engine choices: The 223(Mileage Maker 6) was the standard engine; Ford offered two optional engines: a 262 cid. I6 and also the 292 cid. V8. That's all folks. There were some other cid's available in the car lines, or the Rancheros and Econolines, but none of these "others" were ever offered in the F-Series during that time period. [/FONT]
Here goes, The '65/'66 F-250 4x4 and F-350 4x2 were the only trucks to ever use the front mount /two on the bellhousing motor mount set-up after '64. they used the 240/300 I-6 and The 352 v-8. since neither of the motors has any relation the the aformentioned 223/262 and the 292 there is no garauntee that the mounts will line up like the '64. The F-350 still used a solid front axle and the F-250 4x4 had more to do with the F-350 than its 4x2 version.
