F100 1978 Help Please?

Hi there.
Can anyone help a damsel in distress,dumb blonde ,whatever you want to call me please?
I have a 1978 F100 and on the dashboard at the bottom left corner directly inline with the fuel guage an orange light is coming on.Can anyone tell me what its for please?
As you can tell I know nothing about cars,please be kind !lol

the only orange light ive got on mine is the low fuel economy light... comes on when you push on the gas too hard... i laughed when i saw it the first time... i get 8 mpg- i thought it should be on permanently

Thanks for your help Darrin.Well the fuel gauge doesnt work as a new tank was put on it.It's on petrol by the way.I just don't want to blow it up if it's something really important , it's been driving me mad finding out what it was.I checked the oil,water,brake fluid all that stuff and they seem fine.It'll be going in soon to get the fuel gauge and temp gauge fixed.I only drive it to tow the horse float(think you call them trailers in the USA)and have to use it this weekend.

did the gas guage work before the new tank? if it did they probably just didnt hook up the sending unit. the temp guage is probably just the sending unit on that too... or maybe a fault in the wiring if both quit at the same time... or maybe its just a fuse

They probably didn't get a good ground or didn't even hook the wiring back up.

There are numerous threads on fuel gauges.

Before I leave I'd like to mention to please put the actual topic in the title.

It helps others with searching topics and lets us know what the thread is about.

This one could have been : Orange warning light on dash ? ....

Darren I don't know I've only had it a few weeks so still finding out what everythings for.

Don't know if it'll help but my buddy's truck has one of them orange lights. He only uses the truck once in awhile to chase cows. His light came on this summer and a local old guy told us to change the fuel filter. Fixed the problem so I figure its just a warning light.
