Mike hold on now, You are funning us here. You have posted 3 new posts, and have one old one all with electrical problems. What else is wrong in your dash. You'll have people looking all over trying to help and you may have an unrelated problem causing them all.

i have dealt with alot of ford lighting problems from the 65 mustang up through new trucks. one of the biggest problems is that hi beam switch on the floor it gets water in it from the rain and gets kicked around . in my experience that is almost what always goes wrong . so my suggestion is that if you havent replaced it recently do so . they arent expensive and you can get them almost anywhere. and if that dosent help you better start tracing down wiringlooking for grounds and shorts

HEY MAN, THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP SO FAR, AS FOR THE BRAKE LIGHT PROBLEM, I FIXED IT. I JUST HAVE A FEW MINOR PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRUCK AND IT IS WORTH THE HUNT. THE TRUCK IS A RUST FREE, NEVER RECKED 1 OWNER, THAT DOESN'T HAVE A DING IN IT. NOT EVEN IN THE BED, I AM SERIOUS. IT HASN'T BEEN MOLESTED OR CUT UP. IT JUST HAS AFEW MINOR PROBLEMS. BUT THANKS ALOT FOR ALL THE HELP SO FAR I REALLY APPRECIATE THIS FORUM. IT HAS BEEN REALLY HELPFUL.

Mike, We love helping folk with problems here. You didn't bother to tell us that you fixed the brake lights, (would you tell us what you did)? You have listed three new problems that may all be related, as Dale suggested, and not a single problem three times, thus the reason for the other post. Today you could post that your wipers don't work, and it still be the same problem as the others. Work with us, we can't see what you see.

Help us help you.

John

Hey Mike,
My 66 has a dimmer feature and if the **** is twisted completely counter clockwise the dash lights will only come on w/ the high beams.....try twisting the **** around (clockwise) and possibly spraying some contact cleaner down the stem while you're turning it.
This helped a lot with mine.

Mike
I also had a problem with the dimmer switch. It became loose, opened the screw holes and then wouldnt make good contact. Needless to say I had flashing lights just when I didnt need them. Also had a wire that had 32 years of green crud on it. As a short cut I sliced in about 6 inches of new wires to the 3 poles and moved the switch over about 1 inch. This solved the problem until I can afford the new wiring harness.

LAST EDITED ON 18-Jan-01 AT 09:41 PM (EST)[p]The dash has three seperate bulbs just used for lighting. They are wired directly to the fuse box, and from there to the light switch next. The high beam switch on the floor accepts the wires from the headlights and sends out one wire to the light switch, as well as a seperate wire to the high beam indicator bulb. When the high beams are on, the floor switch is connecting two seperate wires, creating the high beams. The headlight switch always sends a set amount of voltage to the lights thru the high beam switch. The fact that the dash lights only come on when the high beams seems to indicate to me some badly repaired wire is the culprit. Maybe someone couldn't get the dash lights to work before, and ran a direct wire from the high side of the dimmer switch to the dash lights, maybe connecting to them where they go in the fuse box. This way, the lights will not come on when the headlights are on, but only when the high beams are on. Just a thought, good luck with this...Let us know what happens
