Some may tell you different, but as far as I can tell, the siderails are the exact same. My F250 2wd and my parts truck F150 4wd frames looked identical, same thickness and all. Also, in my ford manual, they talk about frame repair in either light trucks (a certain PSI rating) and heavy trucks (different rating) In the manual, heavy is like F750s, L9000s and the like.

73-79 f-150 2wd and f-250 2wd frames are the same, I believe the 250 frames are thicker steel, and some of them have stronger mounting points for the suspension, but basically the same. 73-79 f-150 4x4 frames are the same, and are the same as the 2wd except the front of the frame from about the cab mounts forward is boxed in and the front crossmembers are totally different. 73-77 1/2 f-250 4x4 frames are totally different, they are narrow in the rear, have totally different framerails, 77 1/2-79 f-250 4x4 frames are basically the same as the 2wd except boxed in from about the front cab mounts and have a totally different front crossmember. The 150 and 250 4x4 crossmembers are also different. Crewcabs are also different, they have the narrow frame in 2 and 4 wheel drive.

I realize this is digging up an old topic, but I did some searching and want to verify this. Is it correct?

f-150 frames are the same (4wd boxed from cab forward)
73-79 f-150 2wd (A)
73-79 f-150 4wd (A) boxed from cab forward

73-79 f-250 2wd (stronger suspension mounts) (A) thicker
73-77 1/2 f-250 4wd (B) rear narrow rails
77 1/2-79 f-250 4wd (B) boxed from cab forward

crewcabs are narrow in 2wd and 4wd models
f-150 and f-250 4wd crossmembers are different

Welcome to FTE

That list is in-correct.

The parts catalogs lists myriad variations, but this I can tell you without looking.

1967/76 and 1977 F250 4WD High Boys (before serial # Y20,001) rear frame rails are 33 1/2" wide (apart from one another).

With the exception of some 1973/79 F350's, which also have this same rear frame rail width, most 1973/79's have 37 1/2" width rear frame rails.

The depth of the frame rails of all these trucks vary, one reason why that list is wrong.

I typed all the 1973/79 frame rail variations about a year ago. I'd rather not have to do it again, as there are pages and pages of listings.

I'm in the San Gabriel Valley area, if you wish, you can come by and take a look in the Ford parts catalogs.

what bill is saying is NO all frames are not the same. I know for a fact that f250 2wd and 77 1/2 and later f250 4wd frames are not the same the bends, the cross members the suspension mounts all different. Front cab mounts on all 73 to 79 frames are in same locations relative to the sheet metal mounts of the cab. The rear cab mounts on some 4wd are different.

Frame Cab Mounts

Does anyone know if I can buy the replacement cab mounts that are riveted to the frame? When I pulled my cab off and removed the mounts, most of the steel came with the mount (what steel was left!!) and now the holes to remount with are non-existent. I know they are riveted to the frame, but I'm assuming I could grind off the rivets and replace them with bolts IF I could find new mounts. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

You can use the cab mounts off any 2wd or 4wd, if you can find a junk donor frame. Use a 4" grinder to cut the rivet heads off. Bolt the replacements on with at least grade 5 bolts or better.
