the "red line"

I was wondering if there are any ill side effects to plugging the red line?

I have a superchips set to high performance and a straight 4" exhaust.

The truck REALLY drives good with the line plugged. I don't race it, hot rod it or pull really heavy loads.

I had a problem unrelated to the red line happen the day after plugging it which has kind of spooked me but I don't want to give back the power.

Your red line hooks up to the wastegate. The function of the wastegate is to alleviate drive pressure on the turbine side. The stock turbo starts to lose efficiency over 20 lbs. of boost. At 25 lbs. of boost, your drive pressure could be double the boost pressure. This can start to cause premature wear for the turbo.

Now the stock wastegate actuator is weak, and can open too early. You can adjust the arm, making it shorter, and keep the wastegate closed longer. That way you aren't bleeding out too soon. Or you can buy an aftermarket like a Banks Big Head, which is a stronger actuator.

Since you have a chip, and you set it to high performance, I would suggest that you keep the red line plugged in, but adjust the wastegate to delay opening a bit.

Porsche turbos do the same thing. We put "boost enhancers" on them to cure it. Instead of it opening the wastegate at 5psi the boost enhancer keeps the line closed until the set pressure and then opens it allowing normal function. That way you are using all of the boost made but not raising the maximum pressure. I wonder if the same device would work on the PSD.

It seems to me that the red line mod would stop boost bleed-off while the actuator arm would raise maximum boost pressure-but I may be wrong-

On the Porsche if you remove the line going to the wastegate and only the wastegate spring controls the boost it will go from 12psi to 25 psi(which will cause damage w/out adding more fuel, etc), that is why you need the boost enhancer to control the line without removing it. You can also use a restrictive bolt to allow less air to go to the wastegate.
