New 6.0L owner

As you can see, I'm new to your site. I like what I see from the site an am impressed that there are so many folks out there willing to help fellow PSD owners.

I own a 2006 F-250 6.0L crew cab 2wd XLT and I tow a 15K 5th wheel behind it. I have about 4500 miles on it now and am getting ready to do the first oil change. This is the first 6.0 that i've owned and I would like to know the preferred oil and filters to use. Also, I would like to know what I can do to get a little more horse power out of it without voiding the warranty. This truck is bone stock and seems to be absolutly awesome. I have never been more proud to drive a truck then I do when I drive this truck. If anyone can give me some help, I would really appriciate it.

Thanks,
Kevin

Congratulations on your new rig! As far as oil goes, you can't go wrong with 15w40 Shell Rotella, Chevron Delo, or Mobil Delvac in a climate that's not too cold. If you will be driving in a cooler climate ( 35 degrees or less) you probably should go with Shell Rotella Syn 5w40 synthetic for quicker oil circulation on cold starts. Use the Motorcraft Filter or the Fram (which is the same filter that says "made in Germany" on the end) or the International brand - all the same filter. Beachbumcook has some good threads on this subject.

Be sure to check out our Tech Folder for more ideas. You will find we have pretty good bunch of owners who share the same enthusiasm and willingness to help another PSD owner.

Diesel Power magazine had an article last month about controling soot buildup. It has a lot to do with the oil you choose, and the article was leaning pretty hard towards the Shell Rotella brand oil.

I'm sure Shell paid good money for that article too.

There's nothing you can do to increase the horsepower without risking voiding the warranty. Read your owner's manual. It's in there.

Then why risk the warranty and risk breaking it with modifications? The truck is the most reliable absolutely stock.
