I was tearing down the motor I got from the junkyard today (see the "I got me a motor!" thread) and I measured the deck clearance on #1 piston. I scraped the carbon buildup off the top of the piston, and used a straight-edge and feeler gauges.
I measured about -.008" deck clearance, meaning the top of the piston was out of the hole about .008"! I didn't think Ford did that! Do they use an extra-thick head gasket to make up for it?
Is it supposed to be like that, or did someone tear into this thing before I got it?
