You can do a Wicked Wheel, intake system (6637 filter or whatever), remove the sound deadening from the intercooler pipe, and open up the exhaust maybe ditch the muffler.
If you do a search you can find ways to make your turbo close to or as loud as the 6.0L such as wicked wheel, peeling the crap wrap off your IC pipe, straight pipe and 6637 filter.
lately ive been doing alot of searching to find out more, instead of makin a dead thread
ive tried to do a search but no help. where can i buy the wicked wheel and how much? and how hard is the install? not much of a mechanic but i know my way around a truck.
I'll vouch for that. Heck of a nice little turbo. I was afraid that moving up I'd end up being doggy at the bottom end as a trade off for better response at cruising speed. Not so, not so. Very pleased that little bugger grabs hold right away and just sits there laughing at you at 20 lbs of boost saying *yawn* are ya gonna hit me or what? I dig it.
Now honestly, my least favorite thing is that its louder. I'm a noise freak (then why the heck am I driving a diesel . . . ) anyway. Its like a mini air raid siren. You get used to it.
i think my turbo compressor whistle is just as high-pitched if not higher than a 6.0. my newest addition to the lineup is the ATS compressor shroud, which increased the sound amazingly. i can put up the windows and turn off the radio, and over top of the stack noise, i can hear the compressor whistle before the gauge even moves off of 2psi. the sound at 5-6psi is so great. plus it just gets better from there.
if you want the easiest way to get the high-pitched whistle of a 6.0, then the ATS housing with an open intake are the best ways. another free thing to do is to strip the foil/insulation on the driver's side (hot) intercooler pipe. it really lets the sound amplify.
so far to increase sound and performance, i have done the following:
-open element intake/6637 filter. do not get the AIS, it's really quiet and you dont want that.
-"wicked wheel" compressor wheel
-ATS compressor housing
-Intercooler pipe insulation delete
the ATS housing is way more expensive than the wicked wheel, however the whistle from a ww is deeper, and it doesnt give the high pitched tone. the ATS does however, and when you combine the two, it sounds plain awesome.
i bought it from PuredieselPower.com. Garrett didn;t have the lowest price, so i told him about it, and he price matched it for me. however the part was on national backorder and it took freaking forever for it to get here. i even cancelled the order and it still came. so i got it for free. i guess i will notify garrett of that sometime, im not like that.
Any chance of getting the 7.3 turbo whine to be just as loud as the 6.0? The turbo whisle on the 6.0 is just loud and i love it!
I'm thinking you're talkin' about turbine whistle and not compressor side whistle.
A fella down the road from me has a '03 6.0L with a MBRP 4" exhaust system and when he's easy cruisin down the road it sounds like a jet engine...very intense and a different sound from my straight piped 7.3L. Apparently it's the number of vanes on the turbine wheel that makes it louder.Oh yea...he has a muffler too! It's not deleted.
I believe this it what you're talking about.
