Just finished a 2nd bathroom in basement. Punched a hole in the floor for the drain. Had to go out, under the footer and 25' to hook up to septic tank line. I raised the floor level up about 8" to allow for the shower and sink drains and vent stack. If you elevate the floor can you swing things around so you are away from electric panel? Why not put TP roll on ceiling? that way its hard for the cat to get it. (or grandkids)
I wonder what's worse electrical or plumbing screw ups. Both houses i've owned had electrical problems, such as every plug-in on one circuit. Plumbing is a cinch to me I wouldn't mind fixing plumbing problems. Plumbing also won't blow the end off of you perfectly good screwdriver.
This sounds like the making of a new TV series, "This Old Ghetto".
You don't want to make the news, "man dies electrocuted on crapper, news at 11:00".
Before I married with GF and after for several months the kitchen was down to the studs with nails holding pans and fire stops for shelves full of canned goods. House was built in 1921. The rest of the house was remodeled and showed great. A larger house came up for sale so I had an appraiser over, she asked what style of home, I said "Early American Ghetto" and she was black, oops smart one Carl.
I still got a higher appraisal than I figured, finished kitchen sold and moved.
I finished a 11 month rental remodel (1936) last year while working on a 3 1/2 year major remodel (1905). At 16 years the main house (1930) needs bath rooms and kitchen remodeled before the wife lets me build another FE.
With three houses remodeled, walls moved, rewired, central heat added vs a floor heaters plus a bad back i'm burned out but have one more to go.
Electrical (i'm an electrician), plumbing and carpentry are easy it's painting I hate.
.....=o&o>.....
Electrical or plumbing . . . it's really a toss up for me. I know just enough about both to tinker with either but not enough to do either safely. Luckily if I goof up plumbing it's just water and poo to deal with and not that blown off finger burning hair thing I tend to get with the electrical. If I have it written out on paper I have no problem walking in and rewiring a house or plumbing it. It's knowing all the ins and outs of how it works and what to do that I have trouble with. Years ago I used to do a lot of general labor on construction sites so I worked with this junk every day. Now I've been away from it for an eternity and since my memory has been lost to booze and medication I need a little help. Luckily, bassdude is a plumber and is helping me out with the details for which I am ever so grateful.
