Has any body ever had their clutch fan go on without reason? On Sunday morning I started my truck to go the 20 miles to church and upon pulling out of the garage the fan engaged and ran for almost two miles through town before it turned off...wierd.
Yeah its double walled (1/4"=1/2") aluminum on the sides and bottom. Its contoured (L shaped) to fit under the roll-up canister of my pace edwards roll top. It gravity feeds into a filter/water seperator moounted under the bed then into the filler neck where I welded a threded inlet. It works great and with only two bolts is easy to remove when empty. It has baffles too. The cap is alos vented one way to assist in draining. When traveling I leave the valve on and it drains constantly keeping the lower tank full so when the gauge starts to drop then you know your getting into your last tank. I went 701 miles towing 8K and still had a half in main tank.
that's a killer idea, but I don't travel that far, almost makes me wish I did, oh yeah on a side note our trucks pulling 6K will do 60 to 90 faster than a chevy 1500 unloaded. I tested that out on the highway last weelend

Yep, several times, last one was on the way up to Silverton, snow on the ground, ~45º out. We were running empty except for the 2 of us. I seriously doubt the truck was getting hot but the fan went full on for ~30 seconds. These things are getting so "smart" that sometimes they out-think themselves. Or so complicated they screw up often, your guess is as good as mine
I am new to the diesel world and is this fan clutch what I am hearing when pulling my Toyhauler. I hear something rev up for a few seconds every once in a while and can not figure out what it is. I am concerned because I owned this f250 for four days and the turbo was over boosting and ended blowing the hose off twice and leaving us stranded 200 miles from home. The dealer did bring us a 150 and took the 250 back and put on a new turbo yesterday. I hope that fixes the problem, but I still hear that rev when I hauled my trailer today, hoping its nothing to worry about. Thanks
What year truck? The newer PSD will engage the fan earlier than previous models. The 05 turbo that is replaced has a relief cut into the back plate to eliminate the vanes from sticking and causing an over boost condition.

Yes thats what mine does but only when hauling and in the hills. Not like the other morning...it was in the high 60's-low 70's that morning.
