This probably has been asked, but are the new '06 F-150s speed limited by the chip... I was asked this question this past weekend and curious to know myself. The speedo goes to 120MPH, but what will the truck do. I have read the Crown Vics are limited to 110MPH, with the Police Interceptors at 120MPH. Here are the questions:
- Is the '06 F-150 Speed limited by the chip
- If yes, what speed
- I am not going to take it that fast, but theorticaly speaking what is the upper limit of these trucks on a straight endless highway.

Thanks for any replies,

Remember in one of your first posts how you said you wanted to stay away from the tuner issue. Well you just came smack up against it again!
All of the tuners will allow you to override the built in speed limiter function. Here in Canada it is right around 160 kilometres per hour (100 mph). My 1998 Chev 1500 series with a 4.3 litre V6 would easily reach that (at which point the ignition starts to cut out).
I have never even bothered to try top speed on the F150's as I have been running tires which are pretty much mud tires since I bought my Predator tuner and they are not really condusive to (or safe for) top speed runs.
My guess is that with the 4.10 gears you would have a pretty nice top end, simply because you could achieve top speed in overdrive. With many trucks you cannot pull enough rpm's in overdrive to achieve a higher speed than you would pull in third gear (direct drive). Remember with a truck you are pushing a lot of air and you need to get the engine running in its peak horsepower range to achieve top speed. These 3 valve 5.4's make their peak horsepower at fairly high rpm's.
BTW how fast would your 7700 series go? Once again I never really had the urge to check mine.
now i would never try and drive my f-150 that fast (i have a race car for that) but i know of a tunner that has driven the 04 f-150 up to 150mph twice he told me it was all over the road. ive had mine up to 147mph on the dyno
Thanks for all the replies. I am surprised it is set to 100MPH. I punched it up to 100MPH the other day and immediately took it back down, just to see how it climbed through the speedometer.
Your right Bigdavewilson, I am running into the tuner stuff quicker then I thought. I took my '01 7700 over 100MPH. Not much more then that. The speedo only went to a 100 and I held till the needle passed it. I would guess 105MPH.
I am not planning on driving those speeds, but I feel everyone should know limits of thier vehicles. I see people underestimate pulling out into traffic and such. Especially in front of large trucks like cement mixers, and then you see the smoke pour out the tailpipe when they realize that truck is not going to yield...
Now I know and I can answer the question if I am asked. Thanks again guys - great info!!!
FYI: Be careful not to exceed the speed ratings on your tires. I've got the stock BF Goodrich Radial Long Trail's which have a speed limit of 118mph.
I've hit the speed limiter at 100mph a couple of times. But basically, what is the point? Why would you want to drive faster then 100mph in an F150? Not worth it.
