Just curious if anyone has had these same ailments.
On 9/23/06, while driving down the highway, I lost all lights to my heater display in the dash. The "lights out" condition lasted about 30 minutes and then came back on. On Sunday, my spedometer quit working for about 10 miles, or about 20 minutes. (I was on a gravel road, pulling an overloaded trailer.) It then came back on. I am not sure if they are related, but it seems some electrical glitch could be causing both problems.
BTW, I still have the 1700 rpm lurching, and a host of other problems that have never been corrected.
Electrical problems are the worst. I had one in my 1985 BMW that I had bought new in Germany. It turned out to be a bad socket in the fuse box that caused an intermittent problem. I finally found it myself after much hair pulling and not a little cursing. Hope you get a knowledgable tech for that one.
Just for a hoot, I think the ground for the instrument cluster and dash is on the driver kick panel, behind the trim panel. Try cleaning and tightening that.
The speedo issue could also be a VSS (vehicle speed sensor) problem. I believe it will throw a PO500 error code. Maybe a combo of overload, rough gravel road, etc caused it?
I've had my trucks climate control go blank twice. Both incidents were immediately after starting the truck so I shut it down, waited a few seconds, then all came back as normal. That happened once last year and once again earlier this year. Ghost in the machine?
Check the ground connection as vloney suggested and also make sure all the fuses are seated well and the fuse panel is fastened tightly.
Unfortunately, jfralph has been seeking this for quite some time...over the course of two 6.0s.
Maybe our newer techs here can help. It has been a while since jfralph has been on the boards.

if you have eatc then your control head is going out, have seen several of these, check the fuse box as kw posted. have seen one of the fuses not in properly. the fuse was in the slot but the prongs werent in the female spade terminals, barely making contact.
I had an EATC unit act the same ways as yours but no other electrical issues. After the 3rd time I took the truck in and they replaced the EATC head unit and no problems since.
