We just began to use my '05 F-250 Diesel with the Tow Command System with our horse trailer. The braking system seems to be functioning well , but the interior trailer lights and exterior spot lights don't work when the truck is off/parked....assuming there is no hot wire included . Has anyone added this wire...or know if/how this would be possible to add...ie: is it included and maybe not hooked up ? This has been a simple fix on previous trucks...but was curious about fooling with this installed system ?
Casey: yes...you are correct about draining the battery...but as with everything, it comes down to how sensible you are. It's easier to remember to shut off the interior trailer lights once we're ready to turn in....but a pain and a half to go back out to the truck to turn off the key . We might need the loading spotlight for just a minute...after we've parked the trailer...not practical to turn the key on. In our case, we're not talking about long term living lights....just a momentary curtesy light . We've had them for years when previous break systems were installed....this is the first pre-installed box.
you could install a separate battery in the trailer :-)
but other than that, you could probably run a direct wire from
the battery to your AUX pin (center on on the 7 pin connector)
and use that to power your interior lights.
You would think the trailer with brakes would have a battery in the trailer for the emergency disconnect. I would add a battery if you don't have one allready just for that fact.Or if you do have one sounds like its dead and needs replaced. That would all so fix the other problem your having by having to keep the key on to use the lights.
