So I install my new Tekonsha Prodigy tonight...connect the Ford harness and everything is good-snap snap. Turn the key and nothing...no display-nothing.
Check fuses- all OK. Re-check the wiring diagam- no other way to install it. Only thing I noticed was that the connector from Tekonsha and the under dash connector in the 97 F250HD had different color wires connecting. May not matter-the plug was a perfect fit.
I believe some of the trucks have extra fuses you have to add when installing a brake controller. Do you know if you are getting power to the controller?
I remember reading awhile back on Tekonsha's website that a separate ground is required on some Ford trucks, if the harness under the dash is grounded to the firewall.
What cord did you use to connect from the outlet under the trucks' dash to the controller?
The reason I ask is what you said about the wire colors. If you spliced the pigtail that came with your truck to the pigtail that came with the Prodigy I hope you looked at the wiring diagram that came with the Prodigy. The wires DO NOT match color for color and match different ways for different brands of tow vehicles.
If that is what has happened, go back and re-wire the two pigtails together according to the wiring diagram supplied with the Prodigy, per the instructions for a Ford truck, or order the brand specific cord for your application. Those cords are 10 or 12 dollars.
I used the OEM cable connector Tekonsha offered for Ford trucks. The connector fit perfect and no splices required. I'll get out the multi-tester tonight and see what kind of power and ground I've got. Feelin' Steina might be right about ground. I just had a feeling this wasn't going to be as easy as advertised!
I have had it in a Suburban and an Excursion. Nothing about grounds needed. You are sure you got the right connector and you put in the fuse in the engine bay? IIRC it is a big one
Pretty sure about the connector givin that it matched right up with the connector under the dash. There's a fuse in the engine bay? I only checked the ones in the cab...which by the way didn't specifically address the trailer system. What's IIRC? New to forums (not to problems!).
There are fuese in the engine bay. This box is near the firewall on the driver side. Check for good fuese. #4 (20A), #20 (7.5A), #22 (7.5A), #110 (30A) and #115 (30A)
TFTH...thanks for the help. Just bought the truck to pull my horse trailer. Previous truck was a 76 F100 6-300. I'm not used to all this "new" technology.

Look in you owner's manual to be sure that all of the fuses are in place in the "Power Distribution Panel", not the fuse panel under the dash. All of the circuits that relate to towing are so named in the manual. As noted above, the power distribution panel is the large rectangular box in the driver's side of the engine compartment.
There is also a relay for charging a trailer battery for any twelve volt service that you may have in the trailer such as convenience lights or your break away battery. You may find a plastic bag in your glove compartment with the fuses, relay and a pigtail that matches the socket in the truck. Some dealers go ahead and install them and others do not.
Your Prodigy also came with, as standard equipment, a pigtail that can be spliced together with the one from the glove compartment (following the supplied wiring diagram) to make your own cable. The cable you are using is a custom cable that is sold at extra cost. If it fits your plug, it should be the correct cable, but you can compare both ends of it with the two pigtails that I mentioned to be sure.
