my emissions report shows I'm out of range on both the CO and CO2 levels. My mechanic (who I trust completely), suggested that the fuel mixture is too lean, and the easiest way to fix it is to retard the timing to as low as it will run, as it will just skim fuel off the top, and get me a lot lighter fuel mix. He said it will run like crap, but more air would fix the problem. Of course, he won't do it for me, but suggests this as a fix. I do not have the $$ to make big fixes. Any other suggestions? Would replacing the fuel filter help? I just got the truck, and figure it's probably never been changed.
Just retard the timing.....go get your test and then set it back.......
If you still fail:
I would also suggest that you clean the EGR valve which feeds back exhaust gas into the cyl to be reburned........if the EGR valve is leaking your sucking burn't exhaust instead of clean air back into the cylinders........you could aways remove the egr and put a dime under it so it never recycles burn't exhaust.......
Make sure your air pump is working correctly and the hoses that pump air into the exhaust are not leaking.
Make sure the air filter is clean.........
Adjust the idle to max vacuum using a vacuum guage......
Hope this helps, let us know how you come out.......
