I have a 64 ford truck. It is a custom cab short bed. I plan on putting a velarie front end under it. The fount sheet metal was beat up pretty bad. Can I put the front clip from a 65 or 66 ford truck on the 64. I can also benafit from any information on these trucks. Also how rare is a short bed.

Sounds like you have a good plan. The sheet metal needs to come off to install the Volaire clip anyway. This is an excellent selection for a modern front suspension. Several of the members here have actually done the job and can help you with the details.
The only other thing you need to consider is the remote oil filter if you are using a Ford motor to clear the steering box.
Also, you can set the motor off to the passenger side about 1-2 inches and not hurt anything.
Your exterior sheet metal will bolt directly up but the inner fenders and cowl support are not the same. The hood will interchange too.
Let us know how it goes.

JW/Skip, If JW uses the entire 66 clip including the core support it should be a bolt on swap. And the 64 grill will also bolt back in and no one will be the wiser. I have thought about putting a 64 grill in my 66. I think it looks better.
