Hi, I just want to say this is a great site, I just registered earlier today while trying to find out what might be the problem with the air conditioner on my 97 Ford Ranger. I had it in a repair shop earlier part of this summer and they didn't fix the problem, I had already replaced the exact part they were wanting to replace.
What I was having problems with was no cold air in the normal air conditioner position of the switch. I had suspected that it had an electric blend door but but was not wanting to tear something apart or screw something up without knowing what I was getting into.
I have a Chiltons manual for the truck which proved useless for this fix, also had gotten onto other sites with no-luck,even went by the local Ford garage and talked to the head machanic with no advise to what was wrong.
I get onto this site do a search for the problem I have been having and there is the fix for it. I find that it looks like hundreds have been having the same problem. And a lot of them have used the fix on this site to remedy the blend door problem.
I should have took a little more time on my first post and introduced myself, sorry about that. I am from South Central, KS.
One of my hobbies or maybe its needs is keeping the family vehicles up and running. Not near the chore it was a few years back when I still had teenagers to keep the tore up auto's coming in the shop door.
I did want to mention to everyone here I thought it was great that I was on this site for only a few minutes and found the cure for a problem I had been having with my air-conditioner all summer. Along with the cure it was complete with photos and step by step instructions on how to make the repair. It was laid out better than what you would find in most any automotive repair manual.
I really like the search for posts as it doesn't make you look through hundreds of threads to find the information you are looking for. It's always nice when after someone has had a problem with something though, that they post back into the thread what they finally found to be their problem.
Oh well I guess your right, doesn't give us anything to start up talking about.<a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253F partner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxdm824BXUS%2526i%253D4% 252F4%255F6%255F201%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_6_201.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252F nocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egi f%253Fi%253D4%252F4_6_201/image.gif"></a>
And gnewby, yes it is always nice when someone posts up the solution that they find otherwise no one ever knows if it worked. And don't take me too serious we do like to have fun on here.
Yeah, I got a couple !
1) how much hp can I expect for a tb spacer ?
2) Does the tornado really work ?
3) How can we help Alen get back that new wife smell ?
Welcome, you'll love it here, it helps to be a little crazy, if your not now, you soon will be ! ha ha ha ha HAPPY RANGERING
anywho, i like the topic of my stupid friggin 4wd hubs dont work anymore, i got the auto hubs in a 1993-1997 model ranger. i'm too cheap to buy new manual ones, and want to know of the best way to fix it with $10 woth of parts?!
but alas i gave in, and built a new drivetrain. the hubs are constantly enguaged now, like the new model rangers.
Or you can try, what would putting 5 tons in the back of my ranger do to it. thats a common one too.
Anywhos, welcome to the FTE i'm sure you'll find a home away from home here.
BTW: ever want a turbo for your ranger, just pop a pm to me.
Probably couldn't handle either so I'll just keep workin' on my 97 Ranger. Gnewby good luck with your truck and you'll find lots of help and a few characters in this forum [present company excluded, of course]. Also, if you think your Chilton's isn't worth much, go take a look at the Haynes manual. Then you'll really appreciate the forum like I do.
Through the years I have had some Motor manuals, Chilton, and some Haynes manuals. I don't feel like any of them are as good as they used to be. I don't know if its because of so much more that they would have to show in them to cover everything so they all scrimp on the detail to keep their prices down or if its just tha everything is so much more complex.
The new manuals I keep wondering why I waste my money on some of them. I thought I was buying a service manual for my Ranger on E-bay come to find out I was buying a specs manual for it. I guess they must sell about 3 or more manuals for the newer vehicles. Looks like if they made the pages full size they would be able to get by with fewer manuals.
The info I got on the blend door was great, very detailed and the photos were great. Something that most of the repair manuals are lacking in.
