[font size="1" color="#FF0000"]LAST EDITED ON 19-Feb-01 AT 10:13 AM (EST)[/font][p]had to move the truck across my garage on a floor jack, shuffling the front than the back a little at a time each end with the trans in nuteral so the rear wheels could turn.when finished I discovered the rear diff was locked up.I can not rock the wheels free by hand and using a large pipe wrench the drive shaft will only turn backwards with only the right wheel turning backwards. what could have happened here? could this be a posi unit ? how do I free it without breaking something ? thanks.

I had the same problem with mine. what I found was that when I parked it I set the parking brake and it had rusted to the drum. The only way I found to break it loose was to start the truck and keep rocking it, like I was stuck until, it freed itself. Then gave it a break job.

brakes are not on .I was rolling the truck with no problem,until I shuffled it sideways with the jack.

David, Checking the drums wouldn't be a hard task. You may want to check to be sure. The only way to eleminate that, would be for someone to look. You most likely aren't in central NC so it wouldn't be handy for me to help out. I just can't imagine moving the truck with a jack would cause much damage.
