Cool 91' Explorer....Help

I have replaced the engine (with new) in my 91 Explorer. After several attempts and new batteries and starters it still won't start. It can be hand cranked but the starter will not turn the engine over. I am at a loss at to what to do now. This has been very frustrating. Can anyone help me.

Have you checked the solenoid on the passenger side fender to make sure that when you turn the key to start, that it is getting voltage. Also that when it does get voltage that the relay is working ans allowing power to get to the starter?

Solenoid is working fine. Ignition is working fine. Battery cables are fine. But starter is kicking out but not connection to flywheel. Am I thinking correctly that it is the wrong flywheel???? Thanks

What year is the motor that you put in, and did you use your old starter and flywheel, or the donor motor starter and flywheel?

Ok, we have tried 3 different NEW starters. The flywheel is also NEW. The motor we got from a major parts store and it is a 1991.

you will have to measure from the outside Bell housing case (where the starter sits against) to the front of the flywheel..

then measure from the starter flange to the back end of the drive gear in the starter when it is extended into the nose cone(bendix engaged).

If the measure ments dont match I would be checking the flywheel, either installed in reverse or wrong one.
