engine knock

I've been trieng to figure out whats going on with my 94 aero 4.0 I have a noise more of a knock than a tapping. I noticed today that when in park it is not doing it but as soon as it is in gear the noise is there.???????

This may be a stupid question, but have you checked all your fluid levels?

Check your u-joints on the drive line.
Also check the motor and Transmission mounts.

other than loose internal engine parts, you might check the flywheel/torque converter bolts. these can make amazing knocking sounds.
