Well, I got outbid at the last minute on the E-bay 3.54 Dana 70 gears so now I'm looking for another cheap way to lower highway RPM's on my F-350 with 4.88's without sacrificing too much pulling power. That would have been perfect with a non-OD 5-speed.
I had thought about installing an auxiliary transmission from an F600-800 which someone from TX informed me are/were known as "brownies" after the Brown&Lipe mfg. (apparently bought by Spicer a long time ago). Then he told me they sell down there for $1000-$1400(!) and that was disappointing since a new Ranger 2-speed is "only" $1500 and would be much easier to mount and install.
Guess I will resume searching for a Clark 280VO or other OD 5-speed... any ideas on what to pay for one? I know dinosaurfan got a real bargain on his (non-OD) 285V33 for $250 but the scrapyards around MD/DC are a lot pricier... anyone got one they want to sell?
Charles, I know you can get new gears for your Dana from Richmond Gear. A set for a 60 is $200. Richmond has a website I turned up on search for Dana. I also found places that have used sets on the shelf for $115-$125 from the same search.
