My F250 has an automatic with overdrive behind the diesel Its been sitting for 4 years drove fine before it sat now when I decide to put her on the road I have no reverse. Is there anything I can check or do before I say I need a tranny?
Try dropping the pan and change the fluid and filter. I assume you checked the fluid level. Is the shifter linkage working right? Pull the wiring plug on the passenger side and clean it and put it back.
id have to say your low on ATF, if there is any at all, that would be the first thing i check, then the linkage, but i had the same problem on my truck, its just needed a few quarts of ATF. Dustin
ok, the other optin is if its too full, it is within the "low" and "full" boundry lines right? it will also not work right if there is too much fluid in it...
Are you checking it with the engine running? Sorry, had to ask.
If nothing else, I'd guess a sticky valve in the body is hanging you up. My truck had sat for a few years when I got it. I took it for a test drive around the block, came back and shut it off. An hour later it was dead, wouldn't move at all. I wasn't sure what happened, so I just replaced the tranny. I pulled the old one down, it was beautiful inside, but the valve body was full of red mud.
