What about parts interchange on the 370-429 heavy truck engine? Will gaskets and rebuild parts interchange? Some of them ,all of them? Thanks in advance for your help.
some parts are the same, main differences is block, rods, and pistons (and rings of coarse) about everything else will interchange. The cranks technically will interchange but the 429 crank is forged (this is for the truck cranks not the earlier passenger car units) and the 370 cranks are supposed to be cast, but they have the same journals and stroke.
I know the FTE engines but I haven't had experience with the 370-429.A friend was asking me about gaskets and rebuild parts so I came to the best source I know.
RTM, yes the truck motors use a different timing cover but the 370, and 429 truck motors use the same ones so not an issue.
Like I said 2020, everything but the pistons, rings and rods are pretty much interchangable. So gaskets, and bearings will work just fine but he would have to buy rings for the specific engine he is working on.
Thanks for the replies. My friend was asking about truck to pass. car interchange. He said that Autozone didn't have a listing for the 429 truck and ordered gaskets for a 429 car.
Autozone more than likely does not have listing for trucks that heavy. They may only go up to a 450 chassis or some where around there. I'm also not sure what chassis got the 370/429 engines either.
There's three of these large trucks in the yard I go to. I think they are all 370 motors.
ok going with the passenger car 429, the front main seal is going to be wrong, but I think thats the only one that should be out of whack. If you can't find that one post back and I will ask up at napa here in town for it and get the number maybe autozone can cross reference the number for that seal.
