thanks for your help dave. i am going to have the alternator tested and the battteries retested at another place to see what they say then ill go from there.
is the battery symbol (on the dash) supposed to be lit when the ignition is on. i just noticed that it was lit when i went out to start my truck. i dont remeber it going on but i have never really looked for it.
Just wondering is there any corrosion on any of the connections especially on the right battery look for white powder coming from the cables. Also check for loose Connections on the negitive side Just a thought.
ok well i took the truck to 2 different shops this weekend and they both said that there is nothing wrong that the batteries are good the alternator is charging and the starter is good. so i have no idea as to where to go from here
I believe the starter is going to ground and draining the batteries. There may be a bad spot or a few on the armature. The truck may start fine for days and then not start, it may start fine to go to the store but dead batteries when you come out.
Unless the shop actually took the starter out, it was not tested properly. Something is draining the batteries at odd intervals and unless you have a big amp for stereo thats going junk, my bet is the starter. Batteries can be load tested an you say they have been checked and the system is charging correctly.
I did have a truck one time that the amp/volt gauge had loose wires on. It got hot and melted the plastic stand offs in the dash unit and would not let the batteries take a full charge all the time which resulted in odd starting troubles. I doubt your truck has that goofy problem though.
I had a similar issue. Ater changing everything I could includine the alternator and both batteries, the REAL issue was a bad battery line.
The negitive cable for the battery on the drives side had a long cut that was on the bottom side of the cable and concelled by 20 years of grease and dirt, I never saw it.
Corrosion had built up inside and was not allowing the battery to function correctly. It died and pulled down the other one. Once I replaced the cables it hat been fine for the last 2 years.
