Hey all. Im somewhat new to this site so bear with me.Im looking at buying a diesel, Ive looked at two 2002 250's with the 7.3's and they seem like good trucks. I also looked at an '04 just the other day and it looked even better. My question is what kind of fuel millage do the 6.0's get. are they really better then the 7.3's?

On paper, the 6.0L is to get better. Some agree with this and others state that their 7.3L did better.... so go figure.
If you want to heavily mod the truck, get the 7.3L (from what others have posted).
The 6.0L motor has the newer/better tranny and if you like the "tow-haul" feature that it offers... then you have to get the 6.0L motor. There is less to go wrong with the 7.3L as it was phased out due to EPA requirements... the only reason the 6.0L was produced to begin with... and now the 6.0L is being phased out for the 6.4L motor due in 2007 as a 2008 model.
Bottom line... you will have to make up your own mind... here is what I would do:
1) Get an Oasis report from Ford on the "service history" for both vehicles>
2) Get any service records from prior owners if you can?
3) Do a Car Fax report - can't hurt?
4) Do either trucks have overhead consoles showing average mpg's that you could compare?
Actually, you can not go wrong with either... but I love my 2003 6.0L Excursion and have only had PCM/computer reflashes... and I have 79,000 miles on it... I vote for the 6.0L motor for MPG's (which answers your question).
My 2005 F250, LWB, Bed Cap,FX4, 6.0L gets 17--18mpg highway, 14--15 around town, and 8--9 pulling a 3000lb trailer with a 6000lb tractor/loader on board.
Today, '06 F250 short bed extra cab, A/C running , stop lights and stop signs about every eight feet for 15 miles, 13.5mpg. Freeway, cruise on @ 65mph, 21.8!
