Dangerous Brake/Throttle Pedal Interference
I've owned about 60 vehicles of different types and driven several hundred more. When I drive my '05 350 CC LB, unless I make a deliberate shift of my foot completely off the throttle on to the brake pedal, I end up with with part of my foot covering the throttle. I found that when I step on the brake, it ends up at the same level as the throttle, or maybe a slight bit lower. Right now, I've got 4 other vehicles and none of them does this. Gets pretty scary if I don't think beforehand, because if my foot is slightly straddled, the harder I push on the brake the more the throttle gets depressed and I end up braking while accelerating - really a pretty unsafe condition.
It's not just my particular truck. When I was test driving another one, the same thing happened. I have the adjustable pedals, but that doesn't seem to be the problem.
So, wondering if any of you folks have had this occur and what if anything did you do to correct it?
TIA

yes, a few times it has happened to me, never has happened on any other car i have owned, it hasn't done it in any fast speed situation, just a few times when pulling up to park or something.
i think i now am getting in the habit of shifting my foot far away than normal from the gas pedal.

I had the same thing happen right after I got my truck,it scared the hell out of me thought something was wrong with the truck, cause the harder I stepped on the brake the more the engine reved!not knowing I also was stepping on the gas.
Ya, this happened to me a couple of times. The pedals are kind of close and I wasn't used to it. Once I scared myself a couple of times, I made a change in habit and it hasn't happened since.
Ken, one reason I don't like this is if you drive a manual trans vehicle at some point, you will get all messed up trying to figure out how to address the clutch and brake at the same time. I also worry about the tendency to use both pedals at the same time, seen it more than once.

Have had that happen to me a number of times but only when using reverse. Really scary when backing up in a parking lot or into the garage. Sure would be nice to solve this problem.

Ummmm....I've never seen this either as I too am a 'left-foot braker' when driving an automatic.. Been driving both auto tranny's and changing back to right foot braking with driving sticks for so long, it's natural to me.
It happened to me the third day after buying my truck. Traffic was backed-up due to road construction, so I was already only a few feet from the Expedition in front of me. I eased up a little, and as I went to push the brakes, I caught both pedals. I came within 2 or 3 inches of buying the lady a new paint job.

My last truck was a '73 F-350 and the throttle pedal was several inches behind the plane of the brake pedal even at full application. My tendency was to brake with my toe allowing my heel to hang over the throttle pedal. I guess this is a habit that carried over from my performance driving. It’s that "heel/toe" thing.
There is a fair amount of take up on my current trucks brake pedal. If I let my heel hang over to cover the throttle, I will accelerate then engine. Once I was aware of the problem, I made adjustments.
