2006 Explorer 4WD Question
I have a 2006 Explorer XLT. I have been told that it goes into 4WD automatically. Is this true? I know to put it in 4WD L you press the button, but does it go in 4WD H automatically when one of the tires begin to slip? Thanks for the help!

Your Explorer has the same Control Trac 4x4 that my 04 does. The auto mode send power from the rear wheels (normal driving wheels) to the front when slipage is detected. In additional, Advance Trac can shift power from side to side when slipage is detected. It's not the same as 4x4 High which locks the front and rear wheels, though you can go into that manually by pressing the button on the fly. 4x4 High is great in snowy update NY winters! 4x4 Low can be selected for especially bad conditions or off-road. To do this, shift into Neutral and press the button. 4x4 Auto is the mode you will drive in the majority of the time and works quite well.
