Make a copy of your truck keys and house keys and wire them to the frame of your truck. I guess you can leave the house keys somewhere outside your home so someone can't steal your wheels AND drive to your house and clean it out.
That's not going to help find your mailbox key now though.
When I lose something, I take a timeout and relax and think about the last time I had/used the item and usually remember where it was.

There's been a few times when I left my key in the ignition, with me outside looking in, door locked of course.
One time I was in my truck listening to a song, waiting for it to end, when I got out and closed the door.
Key in the ignition, engine running.
No spare key.
So I had to get a clothes hanger and unlocked the wing window.
a few weeks ago i went to go in at 3am. all set to go, i go to grab the keys. YUP!! no keys. so i start to tear the house apart. still no keys. it is now 3:45, and i have to go. there is a spare key ring in my day bag, and a keypad on the crown vic, so i go outside , get the spares, and go back to the house to lock it up. sure nuff, there's the dang keys, sitting in the deadbolt lock where i left them 9pm the night before when i came in.
