trany rebuild and eec editing

ok first off, where would i go about buying a rebuild kit for a 93 e40d. the symptoms of my tranny are it sticks in first gear unless u let off the gas a bit, and its not the kickdown, sometimes when i go over bumps the speedo whips around and half the time my tranny downshifts when this happens. and now the eec, what hard ware do i need off moates to use eecedit?
thanks aheada time

E is for E4OD. Try getting your VSS (Vehicle speed sensor) fixed/replaced first. I've seen E4OD rebuild kits on E-Bay.

Your best bet is to go to a tranny shop and buy a kit. They will know exactly what you need. I agree that you should check your speed sensor first. They tend to cause alot of problems.

It's mounted on the rear end; try cleaning it first.

It is on top of the rear end housing. All you should have to do is unplug it and take either an 8mm or 10mm and remove the bolt holding in the sensor.

'93? You need the moates.net j3 adapter, and a copy of Paul Booth's EECEDitor.

Also, you need a way of programming the j3 adapter, so you'll need an eeprom programmer which Moates also sells a really cheap one that works well, and of course, a $10 adapter. I don't recall which adapter you need, but if you email Craig he's more than happy to help you out.

And you can tell him that I sent you.

Replace your VSS first like everyone else said. Your transmission uses that to determine shift points and line pressure. It also uses the Throttle position sensor to determine this also. If the VSS is sending a bad signal to the PCM, and the tranny is thinking it's not picking up any speed, it will stay in 1st gear.

The MLPS wouldn't cause it to jump around in gears. It will cause it to feel like it has popped into nuetral from drive.

If the speedometer is bouncing around, either you got a bad VSS, or the wiring going to it is bad. The VSS is a pretty simple setup. It's basically a magnet that gets a reading off the Pinion gear. If it becomes dirty, the speedometer will lose signal and rapidly gain it back, causing your speedometer to drop and then jump high up. I'm willing to bet at this point that you have a short or a damaged wire leading to the VSS.

Also, the PSOM module can be dead.
