hey, just got an 05' F-150 4.6V8 was wondering what would be the best aftermarket parts to get the most horsepower
Hey Josh, Welcome to the board.
Best I can tell from reading here and other places..... The best bang for your buck is a Tuner. Edge Evo or BamaChip custom tune.
I have an 06 f150 with the 5.4 and I just installlled the edge evolution and I love it. My truck finally woke up! I will be putting on new duel exhast tomorrow or friday. Also I have a KN Filter. Can't see a great reson to go with the Cold air intake at this point.
i got the same truck as you and I have the Edge programmer, Volant intake, and a Flow******* 40 series as my performance add ons. I truly have to say they are definitly noticeable as far as horsepower and torque gains. If i had to prioritize, get the tuner first. Discountpowerparts sells them very very cheap and they were very helpful. Im sure he will be chiming in soon
Honestly, depends on who you ask. Volant gets good word of mouth along with K&N 77 Series, but claims vary so much I'm not sure.
There is a gentlemen on the board who is super knowledgeable, Bob Jusnes. He also is a sponsor and is listed on the left hand side of this page, Jusnes Modified. Check it out.
The EDGE is a nice device, but im always partial to a BamaChips custom tune. You get tunes made for YOUR truck, with tweaks that you want, modified for YOUR mods. On a 4.6, you get nearly 50 lbs of torque at the wheels! Youll pay a few more bucks than the EDGE, but the tuning is far superior.
check out our site, we have performance stuff all laid out so its easy to browse, and all the parts are for your truck! no searching around to find what fits.
no, most of the problems associated with a CEL on these trucks, as far as an intake goes, is when the MAF housing is altered. On your 4.6, these kits will retain the stock MAF housing, so you wont have any lean conditions or CELs
