hesitation

anyone have any idea why a 87' 2,9l automatic would hesitate after every stop after driving around for about 3o min. it will start out fine, and the temp gauge wont go hot but it just comes out of nowhere and starts to hesitate until about the third gear. any help is very much appreciated.

Welcome to FTE !!!!!

This only happens after the engine reaches operating temperature?
Is the "Service Engine" light on and/or is the light working?
Check for codes.

'87's didn't come with a "service engine" or "check engine" light. Best first thing to do would be to pull codes from the computer and see if it's a problem the computer can see/has seen. Procedure can be found in Ken00's tech info post.

No codes as in the computer didn't respond to the test input trigger, or no codes meaning all pass codes?

EEC-IV isn't perfect at catching all faults, so there still may be some problem with the EEC-IV sensors. The fault just isn't far enough out of range. Of course, there are other possibilities, too. Checked for vacuum leaks? IAC valve and throttle body clean? Fuel filter free flowing? Fuel pressure correct?

I'd check fuel pressure. I put one can of STP fuel injection cleaner in at a fill up and wiped out the fuel pump. Hesitated intermitantely at various throttle positions at various times but only when warm. If you're putting stuff like that in your tank that could be something to think about.
