Question just don't get it

ok guys
i'm still chasing this pinging problem in my 99 4.0. and i have read
that dirty maf, vacuum leaks and such could cause the ping. well
i have replaced the maf, and checked for a vacuum leak and found none.
but today while warming up my truck i noticed a leaking air sound,so i turned down the radio and i tried to listen. i don't think i've heard it before but i can't really say. but as i pushed on the brake pedal it stopped, so i released the pedal and could hear it again, push the pedal gone. is that normal or have i found another problem.

by the way i would like to thank everyone for all the help so for

The brake issue sounds like a leak in the vacuum booster.

Another likely candidate for the pinging is the EGR system malfunctioning.

Have you ever had the codes pulled? Just to see if anything pops up.

EGR does occasionally cause these problems.

Might want to check with the dealer to see that you have the most current program in your PCM. That was my problem.

If you cannot pinpoint a vac leak and, I do assume you have retorqued your lower intake bolts (you do know about this issue, right??), you need to move on to decarboning the engine. I made a post 3 1/2 years ago regurgitating the contents of the Ford TSB that addresses how to decarbon the engine. This is in the tech info in this forum. I would encourage you to use the PM-3 availabe at a Ford dealer and not the cheapo seadouche/seafoam. Follow the TSB to the tee and do not cut times short or cut corners....if you want to ensure the best possible results (ie, what you would expect a dealer service department to deliver to you). You can also save yourself some time and forget about codes since you have OBD-II, this engine management system is more advanced than the vintage EEC-IV (dates back to 1995). If you have a probem, that light will be on.

well here's the updatetook the truck for a ride today. and so far no pinging, last time i took it out i had just replaced the maf and act. i headed for for hill that has caused the pinging and it still pinged. but it only had about 4 mi. since resetting the computer, today it had 170mi. since resetting and it was about 10 degrees cooler today. so i don't know if it was the fact that the computer needed longer to relearn itself, or the fact that it's cooler today and the cooler temp. is masking the ping.
but it ran bitchen today

then again maybe GOD is a ford lover, cause i have been praying. lol
