I mean I will always keep my ol' '77 F150, and may buy another one some day...but as far as brand new, well it's like buying a house with a mortgage and the payments have to be justified by the means.
my neighbor around the corner has an old '80's F150 that looks just like my old one...faded black paint...in need of many minor repairs and just keeps on running....well, he just got a brand new '07 DODGE...I actually was surprised he went to the Dodge...but....he is an intelligent guy who is real careful about major purchases and transactions...
Well I'm sorry to hear about this for all of you but I must say at the same time that that's what you get for buying an automatic. If people would quick trying to buy vehicles (especially trucks and sports cars) with automatics then they wouldn't be having this problem. It's typical that they'd try to screw you that way though, that's the dealership for you. Maybe next time you'll consider getting a proper transmission that involves 3 pedals instead of just 2.
The only way to get a standard transmission for a 5.4 liter V8 is to get a SuperDuty with one, for your info.
Ford does not offer a manual tranny with either the 4.6 L or the 5.4 L engines in the F150.
If they did, I'm sure there would be more of them on the road. Some people have bad knees which preclude them from shifting too much. Some people don't like to shift.
yes thankyou powerdude, I'm aware of that. And if you wanted you could do the swap without too much trouble. Ford used to offer a stick shift with the 4.6 until the 2004 model year so it hasn't been that long. I'm sure that trans would still do nice behind a newer 4.6 or probably even the 5.4. And yes some people have knee problems and or don't like to shift and that's fine. But the rest of us shouldn't have to suffer and not at least have the option wouldn't you agree.

Thank C Lee, I appreciate the support. And good for you for stickin (no pun intended) with what you like even with a knee injury. As far as Bigziff is concerned, last time I checked this is an open forum. I don't recall there being any rules that say only these certain people can ask questions and post replies. If you feel threatened in some way by other people's input then perhaps that's a reflection of your own insecurity. In other words, mind your own buisness what do you say?
Recently drove on a very washboardy road and when I reached a place to accelerate, the RPMs came up but the truck wouldn't go. Stopped and checked the fluid level. Waited about 10 minutes, then drove it home about 50 miles with no more trouble. Dealer says nothing wrong. Something must have worked itself loose with all that rattling around on that lousy road, but it seems fine now. Any ideas? Don't want to be stranded, of course.
Hey guys, I am having my '04 xlt trans looked at now. At first they said it was the slip yoke, now they say the shaft in the trans that the slip yoke fits on has too much play in it, needs a bearing. The problem is it clunks when you let off the gas and then get back in it. So we are off to the trans shop with 45,000 on the truck

I just bought an 05 lariat 4x4. I notice the clunk when I let off the gas sometimes. I didn't really think it was a problem until I read these posts. Of course it is out of warranty.
I just traded my 2004 4.6 XLT. It was having hard shifts between 1-2 and 2-3 gears. It felt like it was slipping but the tac never showed a RPM surge. I suspect it was the torque converter.
I took it back to Ford and all they would do is reflash the computer. Needless to say I bought a new F150 a week later and they took the broken truck that nothing was wrong with.
04 4.6 xlt... .at 10k installed a 6 in lift kit with 35x12.5's.... also occassionally towed a small travel trailer with it... at 49k... tranny was slipping... I thought it was because I put off changing the rear end with my larger tires... changed the rear end to a 4.56... drove to a friends house on superbowl sunday and almost didnt make it... all of a sudden a rpm spike and no go... i switched the OD off and it made it... a week later... rebuilt the tranny and added a shift kit... much much better.... my mechanic said he was beginning to see a lot of f-150's lifted... lowered... standard.... come in around 45k miles on it... same problem...
