So close-

Ok, got the axle out of my 72 F100, and it looks so- puny. Especially compared to the D44HD I have to put in it's place. This is the cause for my concern, since my plan includes cutting the radius arm mounts off the old axle and mounting them on the new one. The old D44 has about 2 3/8" tubes, but the new one is 2 3/4". How do I go about fitting the wedges to it? Should I just grind them out on the upper and lower edges, or are they close enough to work without damaging the bushings?

Grind them out just a little if you intend to use the same wedges, otherwise you can buy these for the larger tubes: http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/i-...arm_mounts.htm

It doesn't take much clearancing on those to make them fit. Personally I'd opt for the new JBG wedges but I know money is always a factor.

when i cut the spring pads off my D60 and welded those edges from JBG they fit right on. all i had to do was make spacer to go between my C's. no problems so far!

Yeah, I didn't think about a spacer. Maybe I'll just make up some 3/8" shims and let the bushings take the rest of the slack.
