I just purcashed a 1990 f250 with the 7.3 diesel in it. It has been sitting for a while. When I got it started oil was running out of what looks like a 2 inch pipe that runs from the front of the motor to the oil filter housing. The end that fits into the housing looks to be leaking. What is this and is there a o ring or something that can be replaced?
That would be the oil cooler, yes orings/gaskets are available and it is a reasonably simple job with correct instructions. Click on my name and Email me and I will send instructions.
Also check your radiator and flush your cooling system if you see oil in your coolant.
Also check for coolant in your oil pan. Do an engine oil and filter change as a minimum before running the truck too much or you could do some serious engine damage. (bearing damage)
Sometimes the oil coolers leak out oil, sometimes they also leak oil into the coolant.
Careful with the cooler gaskets, apparently there are several models of coolers used on the 7.3l diesel and I have seen much confusion about guys getting the wrong parts.
