88 Bronco II 2.9 auto
Ran great then just died and will not restart. Put a spark plug in plug wire and coil wire and cranked over, no spark at all. A day or so before it died changed alt, plugs, cap, and rotor. Since died changed coil and tfi module.
I tried to read the codes(have read them in the past) but hooked up the jumper wire turned on key but nothing the light does not even come on let alone flash. So tried to use a volt meter but needle does not sweep, with the key off just reads about 13.5 volts, key on nothing.
Would the comp/brain be bad? or?
Mine had this same problem. But mine if I let it sit for about 10 minutes it would run for a while. Found out there is an ignition module that is mounted on the back side of the distributor. When this get hot (It gets hot when engine running) over time it just goes bad. They sell this part at Auto Zone for around $100.00. Before forking over the money take the module into them and they can test it. Make them test it 3 times in a row. Reason is they need to get it hot. It doesn't fail when cold. So on the 3rd time of testing it will be hot. If it doesn't fail it's good. I have a feeling that may be your issue.
Check the computer in the right side kick panel for any signs of water damage. Unbolt the retainer bracket to remove the computer then unbolt the wiring harness and check the pins for corrosion.
Been there, done that.
