Any tips or advice for storing my ride for the winter in an unheated garage. Last year I would go out there once a month to start it up and let it run but it became very difficult to start and I was afraid I might hurt the engine.I fog my boat engine and put Stabil in the tank and antifreezein it, what else should I do for the truck.Should I change oil before or next spring?
John
I don't think it matters much whether you change the oil now or in the spring. I prefer doing it in the spring. I have been in northern New Hampshire since 1998 and all I do is let it sit all winter in my unheated garage and do not run it again until Spring. The Stabil is probably a good idea but I've never used it. Be sure the antifreeze mixture is up to snuff for whatever temperatures you expect. Mine is set for minus 35 but the coldest I've seen it here was minus 28. I have about a 75-25 mixture of antifreeze and water. Be sure to open your heater valve to circulate the mixture through the heater.
go down to the store and pick up a bar of irish spring soap ,cut it up in four pieces ,and set one piece by each tire, the mice HATE the smell ,and stay away !!!!!!!!
Where were you when I was putting my engine up for storage???
Vern, that is funny! I had almost forgot about the dreaded mouse incident.
Heck, we havent had much of a winter around here in ages. Maybe we will have one this year. I typically get alot of work done in the winter since my weekends aren't filled with camping, boating, motorcycle trips, cruise nights, house and yard chores, family gatherings, honey do this, honey, can't we just do that, etc, etc, etc. In the Winter time I can fire up the heater in the garage and get after it.
