Which end does the spacer ring go on the splines of the driveshaft?

The one I'm taking off is closest to the rear of the truck. But it looks like it should go in front of the bearing. Suppose it might work either way.

Thank you much

Good luck doing them taxes: "All we own, we owe owe!" ..Least they can't take my truck.

I Guess the first question would be what make, model and year etc. More importantly, get a manuel for your make and model of Truck. It will be the best money You ever spent. If a manuel is out of the question post again and I will try to find the answer for you. must have all info! I have manuels that cover most 61 - 76 Ford Trucks.

Does your truck have a 2 piece drive shaft? I am a little confused here. Not unusual for me. Looking forward to your reply.

Hi, Had some time to get out the Chilton manuels. neither the 1961 - 1971 Truck Repair Manuel nor the 1965 - 1986 Ford Pickups Manuel show a spacer ring for the 2 piece drive shaft. It has been years since I have worked on these types of drive shafts. Can anyone else out there help?

I have to ask two questions 1 Does the spacer slide on the shaft easy or is it press fit. 2 does the carrier bearing slide on the shaft easy or is it a press fit. wich ever piece is the press fit goes toward the splined end. if niether is a press fit there should be a snap ring retainer that keeps it all on the shaft.

Yes! it is a 2-piece shaft. Front spline goes about ohh 10" into the rear half with a splined receiver.

The space ring goes on easy, and the carrier bearing is press fit. I guess the one I'm taking off (still haven't got the bearing off, shopping for a long puller) was put on backwards by the original owener.

At least I've learned one thing on my own: hide the damm hammer somewhere in the shed, when working on a hollow driveshaft.

Thanks for the replies.
