89 ranger power steering issues

i have an 89 ranger 2.3l w 119k miles...

ive noticed a few drops under the engine i believe to be power steering fluid, and i can see its coming out of the power steering box... now i can hear "whining" when i turn the wheel.

i havent done much mechanic work and i am wondering
a. do i need to replace the pump?
b. can i do this myself? i have the haynes manual, but it talks about special tools..

any advice would be much appreciated.

Are you talking about the GEAR BOX? or the PUMP ITSELF?

If it's the pump, yes you can probably do it, except you'll need a pulley remover and installer. If it's the gearbox you'll need a pitman arm puller.
