That X is a Carl brand, I built the whole system from scratch.
It's hard to see but the pipes from the collectors drops down after they clear the tranny crossmember by 2 inches for a straight level shot to the X under the driveshaft on back. Dr.Gas makes a short X for I believe $93 in 2 1/2" or with 4 stubs and a X for more. I didn't like their angles and thin gauge used hence built my own. Check for ideas at www.burnsstainless.com or http://www.popularhotrodding.com/tec...d_header_tech/
Frame mounted angle iron with drops for rubber hangers all have to be made, rubber is from a serpentine belt. I spent some time on this "fun project", mufflers, clamps and mandrel bends run up the cost big time labor free. Kind of like the pre-oiler I built I sent you pictures of again free labor but the results again are great.

I was looking at the MagnaFlow Tru-X $79.95. It is 12" long. I will check on the Dr. gas one too. They offer one from Flowtech for $35 but it looks like they took two pieces of curved exhaust pipe and welded them together. I could do that myself!! lol
pbear:
That is why I used a burnsstainless design vs Dr.Gas besides I took measurements off one on a race car and built my own. Call me cheap. I hope those photos I sent you can shed light on how to build your own exhaust.
It's a good feeling to build your own without crushed pipe slammed together by a muffler shop, they're in it for the money only. My muffler shop friend would of charged $2,500 plus for what I built after he saw the finished product.
I have a Dr. Gas 2 1/2" X that I purchased and never used, cost me $93 before shipping before I went to the track and measured a burnsstainless X cross. This item should be posted on the items 4 sale as half price this is better than a dust collector item I have now. Two FTE members wanted it over time but never followed up, wait until the cows come home?

I'll bring this back to the Aerochamber topic because I have fresh dyno data. My Engine Masters Challenge FE entry this year is (per the rules) 434 cubes, 10.5:1 compression, and runs on 91 octane Shell V-Power unleaded. The contest is scored by adding together your average torque and average horsepower values from 2500 RPM to 6500 RPM. As a reference my 9th place 505 FE from last year had a score of 1140.
Baseline runs on the 434 with open headers netted a power peak of 685 horsepower at 6500 RPM (it actually ran 694 @ 6700, but thats higher RPM than subsequent tests), and an average score of just over 1000. We ran it with a set of 3" MaxFlows and were able to get similar peak power and an average score of 994. I looked at the Aerochambers and, thinking it was a waste of time, decided to make a single pull with them. Good thing I did because the average went back over 1000. After a few other changes we were higher yet - but the punchline is that the Aerochambers are good parts that do not get the credit they deserve!

Thanks for bringing it back. I need all the help I can get. lol I am very seriously thinking of getting the Aero's. As soon as I either find a muffler shop willing to do what I want or I will have to do it myself. They are being a pain about the cutouts and putting the x-pipe in. jerks!!! Anyway...thanks for the dyno info, it's very helpful!!
Hey Beemer how did you do your bends so neat? Those pictures look like somebody from a nascar shop did them. I have never seen anything that neat and clean!! No joke!! Where did you get the clamps? Thanks again for the pictures.
Scouder, that sounds pretty mean, like it could be a high revin' monster. So, what is a 511 comprised of? 460 stroker? 428 stroker? What do you use that pickup for, I noticed the cage coming out of the back of the cab.

Hi Scott,
The 511 is based on the 427, which is an FE engine of the same family with the 390 and 428. This one does indeed rev up pretty good. It seems to like 7000 rpm just fine.
Originally the truck was just going to be a truck to take fishing, or just for a ride in the mountains, but it got out of hand. About all it's good for now is drag racing, mud racing, or a quick cruise down main street in town.
See these newer videos for an update. The one you looked at here is two years old. Go to:
Holy Snikeys! That thing gets with the program. I bet that truck is the talk of the area. Are you going to run a bed on it eventually, or are you keeping the weight down. It would probably hook up in 2x with a bed on it, well, maybe not. That would be fun to drive. Another FTE'er, Ted's'74 was telling me about your pickup and the video of it when you forgot to lock in the hubs, he was right. That thing is crazy, wicked, awesome.
What kind of power numbers are you putting out? Who made the stroker crank?
I have a pretty straight '68 F100 2x that I would like to build an FE for. It is supposedly going to be for my wife, but I like it too much and think I will make it a goer let her drive it once in a while. I don't know if she would actually like driving an old pickup, that is all I have ever known. I still drive my '69 4x that I drove to high school 11 yrs ago. I love old Fords, why I have a few.
Long time no post. Hope all is well in FE land. Scouder that is a nice set-up you have there. I wish I had that kind of cabbage to stick in my truck!! Scottfreeman, I think you would be happy to build that truck for yourself..lol Of coarse I have a 68' F100 2x so I have a one sided opinion. My wife won't drive mine, but that is probably a ggod thing considering that gas is 3.29 a gallon for 93 and 6.25 for the 110 I have to mix with it. 50/50 mix so a fill up really hurt's!! Oh well that is the price you have to pay for a miscalculation.
By the way I finally got a muffler shop to do my exhuast with the cut out's and the X pipe. It wasn't very cheap, but nothing on a FORD is!!! I went with the Hooker Aero Chamber muffler's and they sound GREAT!!! I really like them and get lot's of comment's on them. They are really close to the Flowmaster's in sound, but have little deeper tone to them. The Hooker's are rated at a higher flow rate and more performance. I would definatly buy them again if I was re-doing it.
I forgot to mention that I put a Hooker aerochamber on my wife's '99 Explorer. I know it isn't an FE, but I like the deep rumble it has at idle and putsing around. It has the 4.0 in it, but it sounds V8-ish with the 3in single exhaust and CAI on it. Wish I could afford to hop that one up internally, think it could be cool. I would buy it again, I really like the beefy construction. Same reason I put one chamber Flowmasters on my '69 12 years ago. It still sounds the same, didn't burn out or rust off.
LAE, they called it their Kryptonite crank. They went out of business since then.
I didn't know that, what a pisser.
Without getting into a flame war I still would not install a cast 4.250" stroker crank into a high dollar motor, shame to hear about this scoot.
We could run a forum just on your truck, I guess we kind of took this one over. That truck is one of those that everyman dreams about building at some point in his life.
My dad, my brother, and I all are into old Fords. My brother's '76 is in the "old pictorial" from when he first painted it, it is pretty in Dodge Viper Banzai Blue. My dad's '77 crew cab F250 (pickupbuilder handle on the forum) is in the appropriate section. All of mine are Fords and in here also.
